"Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" (1982) is a filmed record of one of his stand-up shows. He covers a number of subjects from his personal life(drug issues, a trip to Africa, talking to inmates in jail) to the current issues of the day. He moves very quickly from one topic to another. When he talks about Africa Pryor imitates jungle animals talking to one another-he is very quick at changing his body language and verbal tone to match each animal. He is surprising in some of his commentary-his initial remark after talking to inmates is "Thank God, there are prisons" combined with his own unique facial expressions. He brings up his then recent free base accident by asking if the audience can keep a secret, then teasing that they are bunch of "lying -----" when they assure him they can. Even after joking around, he talks honestly about what happened that day and his subsequent rehab-drawing laughter from a terrible experience. It is impossible to watch this movie without greatly missing the man.
